Domain statuses and fixing Needs attention

What each domain status means, how often ZevInbox checks, and what to do when a domain needs attention.

Updated 2 min read

Every domain in Settings › Domains shows a status. ZevInbox checks your DNS records by itself and changes the status as it finds them.

What it means

What to do

Waiting for DNS

ZevInbox has not found your records yet.

Add the records shown on the domain's page.

Verifying

Some records are in, ZevInbox is confirming the rest.

Wait, or select Check now.

Verified

Every required record is in place. Inboxes send from your domain.

Nothing.

Needs attention

A record that was working has gone missing or changed.

Fix it within 72 hours. See below.

Not verified

A record stayed broken past the 72 hours.

Put the records back; the domain verifies again once they are found.

Setup incomplete

72 hours passed with no progress since you added the domain.

Check the records were added where your domain's DNS is actually managed.

How often ZevInbox checks

  • While waiting: every minute for the first 10 minutes, then every 5 minutes for about an hour, then every 30 minutes.

  • Once verified: every 6 hours, so a record that disappears is noticed.

  • While it needs attention: every 15 minutes.

  • Not verified: every hour. Setup incomplete: once a day.

  • Any time: select Check now on the domain's page.

Fixing Needs attention

A domain needs attention when a record that was verified is no longer found, or no longer matches. Common causes:

  • someone edited or removed the record while changing other DNS settings,

  • the domain moved to a new DNS provider and the records were not copied over,

  • a second SPF record was added.

What happens:

  1. ZevInbox tells owners and admins, and the domain's page marks the record that changed. It shows We found: with what is there now.

  2. You have 72 hours to put it back. A reminder goes out 24 hours before the time runs out.

  3. Once the record is found again, the domain returns to Verified.

  4. If it is still broken after 72 hours, the domain becomes Not verified. If a record needed for sending is among the broken ones, inboxes stop sending from the domain until it is fixed. Once every required record is back, it returns to Verified by itself.
